BOOK REVIEW: Bared To You by Sylvia Day

BOOK REVIEW of Bared To You by Sylvia Day

This one has been a long time coming. I finished it a while back but life got in the way.
I wasn’t too keen on reading this series at first. I’d seen people swooning over it and I was worried I would be underwhelmed or it wouldn’t be my thing.
I was wrong.
Again!

Our journey began in fire . . .
Gideon Cross came into my life like lightning in the darkness - beautiful and brilliant, jagged and white hot. I was drawn to him as I'd never been to anything or anyone in my life. I craved his touch like a drug, even knowing it would weaken me. I was flawed and damaged, and he opened those cracks in me so easily . . .
Gideon knew. He had demons of his own. And we would become the mirrors that reflected each other's most private wounds . . . and desires.
The bonds of his love transformed me, even as I prayed that the torment of our pasts didn't tear us apart . . .

Bared To You starts off ordinary, a cute protagonist trying to find a place for herself in a new city.
But soon enough she’s colliding (literally) with Gideon Cross, and thus starts the seduction. Cross is ruthless going after what he wants and he’s set his sights on Eva.

Amidst the smoking hot sex scenes, a lot of misunderstandings and Eva’s past catching up with her, a beautiful, if not slightly scary for Eva, D/s relationship blossoms. She doesn’t understand it, she doesn’t want it and she fears she’ll lose herself to the strong Mr Cross. But it is how it is supposed to be portrayed. The trust and adoration and affection and love of this particular relationship is shown wonderfully. It is not based on pain but on pleasure, giving and receiving, wanting to please the other person. It was lovely and all the hotter for it.

The aspect of hot, dominating millionaire/billionaire has become a common characteristic in Alpha males but it was a tiny element to the whole story. He has money, but he doesn’t flash it, she has money but she doesn’t really use it, her past staining it until she wants no part of it. And yet it helps them come together and plays parts in their misunderstandings.
The characters are amazingly flawed and Cross is devastatingly gorgeous, even I have to admit, his arrogance is sexy.

There are exes that come back, and gossip that threatens to use the couples jealous possession of each other against them, threatening to separate them when they need each other like they’ve never needed anyone. The strength of the co-dependence, the reliance on the relationship, should be unhealthy, and it is. They each have issues that mess them up.

Through the twists and turns, and wanting to throttle sense into both characters (a common thing in the books I’ve been reading recently) I enjoyed the fast paced, easy development and steamy, having-sex-anywhere-they-can scenes. A great read.

I awarded this  book 4 Throbbing Hearts and a heat rating of Sinfully Hot.
